SungHee,Lee
Biography
Dr.Sunghee Lee is an expert in aerospace and satellite communications for more than 25 years, currently serving as CEO of AP Satellite and Chairman of CONTEC Space Group.
He worked as a researcher at Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) for 16 years, leading the development of ground station systems and satellite operation technologies for major space projects, including the ‘Naroho (KSLV-I)’ launch project.
He later conducted CubeSat research at Carleton University in Canada, where he established an international network of cooperation.
Established in 2015, CONTEC has grown to focus on satellite operations, ground stations, and satellite data processing technology, building Korea’s first private commercial ground station in Jeju in 2019, expanding its global satellite operations network, and collaborating with satellite operators around the world.
Under the leadership of CEO Dr.Sunghee Lee, Kontec became the first Korean space company to go public on the KOSDAQ in 2023, gaining recognition for both its technological competitiveness and corporate credibility.
Through the acquisition of AP Satellite’s shares in 2024, the two companies will be integrated and operated together to create an integrated system for the entire space industry, including satellite body and communication terminal manufacturing (upstream) and satellite operation and data services (downstream). Under the value of “endless challenges for space and humans,” we are leading the Korean space industry to strengthen its global competitiveness.
APSI
AP Satellite is Korea’s leading satellite company that has been at the forefront of the satellite industry for 25 years since its establishment in 2000, leading steady technology accumulation and localization, including the development of satellite bodies and communication terminals.
In June 2024, with the inauguration of CEO Dr.Sunghee Lee CONTEC made a new leap forward as ‘CONTEC Space Group’, completing a full vertical chain covering the entire cycle of the space industry from upstream (manufacturing) to downstream (data services).
The merger creates an independent, privately-owned satellite manufacturing and testing infrastructure based on geostationary mobile communications over satellite (GMPCS) services, an exclusive partnership with ICEYE, the world’s leading SAR satellite company, and an Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT) center in Bucheon.
The AIT Center is an integrated facility that can carry out the entire process from satellite assembly to environmental testing, orbit simulation, and electromagnetic wave testing. It is five floors above the ground, with a 10-meter clean room and various environmental testing equipment, and is scheduled for completion in October 2024. This will enable APSAT to quickly provide reliable satellite systems to customers at home and abroad, further strengthening its competitiveness in the global satellite market.
